Die Föderation für Weltfrieden lud am 23. Januar 2016 gemeinsam mit der Permanent Mission of Eritrea to the UN in Vienna und der United Nations Correspondents Association Vienna zu einem Informations- und Kulturabend über Eritrea ein. Eritrea war ab 1890 eine italienische Kolonie. Ab 1941 stand das Land unter britischer Verwaltung und war ab 1952 föderativ mit dem damaligen Kaiserreich Abessinien in Personalunion verbunden, ehe es 1961 als Provinz Eritrea des Äthiopischen Kaiserreiches von Haile Selassie zentralistisch eingegliedert wurde. Nach 30-jährigem Unabhängigkeitskrieg wurde Eritrea 1993 erstmals seit 1961 wieder von Äthiopien unabhängig.

Nach einer kurzen Einführung in die Geschichte und Kultur Eritreas durch Botschaftsrat Abdulkadir Bakri Hamdan, den Vertreter Eritreas bei der Uno in Wien, sprach Habteab Tsige, (M.Sc. in Geology) Eritrea Institute of Technology, über Mining and Mineral resources of Eritrea. “Eritrea, as a young independent nation in the world, is geographically located on the Horn of Africa, along the western shore of the Red Sea. Due to the 30 years of liberation in the later part of the last century, which led to the total liberation of Eritrea and the following 25 years of very challenging struggle of nation building, the wider world population in general and investors in particular had little chance of knowing the economic potentials and opportunities of the country. But now it should be very clear that Eritrea can be declared as an emerging mining nation with relatively reach mineral resources.”
